New Year’s Resolution?
Aiming to be more active? More attentive? More organized? Ready to take the first steps to quit smoking?
New Years is a time for new beginnings. New goals. New starts. New responsibilities. This doesn’t have to be daunting. In fact, it can be exhilarating. Starting afresh can be a positive, rewarding experience. You have to anticipate some hitches in every plan. The important thing to remember is that everyone has the opportunity to start something—smokers and non-smokers alike.
If you google the statistics about how many people follow through with their new years resolutions…. Well, I wouldn’t recommend it. Don’t become a statistic! This is about you! Your goals! Your health! Your body! Your new start! Don’t expect to quit first try. In fact, maybe a new years goal of “I’m going to quit smoking” is not realistic. Think about goals that you know you can accomplish if you set your mind to it. Maybe you can decrease how many packs a week you smoke. Even decreasing by one cigarette a day is something to celebrate!
But how to start? Now that you’ve decided on a reasonable resolution, where should you start?
Arm yourself with the tools you need to succeed! Ask yourself, who can I call for support when I have a craving? Do I know everything I need to about smoking? Is there a community or forum online I can access? YES.
There are websites…
There are phone apps….
There are communities of people just like you!
This is your new years resolution, so it is in your hands! But the YLT and YAC are here with any other tools that you might need to help you step onto, and continue on, the road to quitting smoking.
